Articles from last year;
Local Celebrity Bartenders Include Philadelphia DA, Seth Williams & Montgomery County DA, Risa Ferman with proceeds benefiting The Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation

PHILADELPHIA, PA – (February 29th, 2012) – The Irish Pub is proud to welcome FIVE Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, including Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Thornton, to Philadelphia as part of their second annual “Gathering of Heroes” fundraiser, which raises money for The Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation (MC-LEF). The distinguished heroes will travel to Philadelphia to take on the happy hour crowd as guest bartenders at both Irish Pubs on Wednesday, February 29th, 2012 from 4pm to 10pm. Top law enforcement officers, local celebrities and some very special VIPs will pour drinks and swap stories alongside the legendary soldiers, while all tips, t-shirt proceeds and charity auction items will benefit The Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation (MC-LEF).

The night will kick off at 4PM at the Irish Pub at 1123 Walnut Street, featuring special guest bartenders Philadelphia DA, Seth Williams, and Montgomery County DA, Risa Ferman, as well as Medal of Honor recipient, Lt. Mike Thornton. At 6PM participants will move the party to the Irish Pub on 20th and Walnut Street, where five Medal of Honor recipients will be on hand to sign books, meet fans and greet guests. Congressional Medal of Honor recipients expected to attend include Lt. Michael Thornton, Brian Thacker, Barney Barnum, Jon Cavaiani and Tom Norris. “The Medal of Honor is ‘the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force, which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States,’” says MC-LEF board member Jack Cummings who is the driving force behind this year’s event. Cummings will also bartend.

“The Irish Pub is thrilled to once again host such a meaningful event right here in Philadelphia. This now-annual event is very special to us, and is the least we can do to honor the heroes who serve our country,” says Cathy Burke, co-owner of the Irish Pub and Chairperson of the Irish Pub Children’s Foundation. “Every day hundreds of thousands of men and women put their lives on the line to protect our country and preserve our way of life. Rarely do we get a chance to express our gratitude and to help veterans and their families. We are ecstatic that five Congressional Medal of Honor recipients from all over the country will be flying in to support this very special night.”

The $20 event admission fee includes a “Gathering of Heroes” souvenir event t-shirt to the first 500 through the door, and the proceeds will go directly to the charity. There will also be a live auction, drink specials, a Medal of Honor book signing and a silent auction.
