COL ROBERT CHARLES SCHMIDT

Research Results;

Robert Charles Schmidt was born on January 23, 1922, in Covington, Kentucky, to Catherine E Schmidt, age 28, and Walter Carl Schmidt, age 33. His sister Mary Louise Schmidt was born on March 5, 1924, when Robert Charles was 2 years old. They lived in Ft Thomas, KY until at least 1944.

Robert Charles Schmidt joined the AF sometime between 1940-42. In 1943 he was promoted to 1st Lt. Less than a year later he is promoted to Captain, by 1954 a Major, and Col by 1966 (refer to newspaper articles below for military accomplishments, dates,etc)

Robert Charles Schmidt married Elizabeth Garner Perkins Schmidt in Ohio in 1946 when he was 24 years old and they resided for a short while in Alabama after marrying.

His son Robert Charles Schmidt Jr was born on May 1, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
His son Michael L Schmidt was born on September 6, 1949 in Hawaii
His daughter Beverly Louise Perkins Schmidt was born in 1954 in Ohio
(They lived in numerous places including Hawaii, Kansas, Germany, France and Ohio)

His father Walter Carl Schmidt passed away on November 1, 1952, in Kentucky at the age of 64.
His mother Catherine E Schmidt passed away on February 11, 1971, in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, at the age of 77.

Robert Charles Schmidt and Elizabeth Gardner Schmidt divorced (unsure of year)

Robert Charles Schmidt then married Lila Ilena Morris Schmidt in Ohio on April 18, 1974, when he was 52 years old. (Lila Schmidt 1937-2016)

His sister Mary Louise Schmidt Skeleton died on March 19, 1996, in Xenia, Ohio

Robert Charles Schmidt died on December 22, 2010, in San Antonio, Texas, when he was 88 years old. Burial; Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, USA.

Next of kin located June 2018. Neal is sending the dog tag to his daughter, Beverly Perkins, in Cody, WY

SCHMIDT
Col. Robert Charles Schmidt (USAF, Ret.), a World War II Veteran and a great patriot, Col. Schmidt proudly served his country over three decades. Born January 23, 1922, he died December 22, 2010. Following high school, he acquired his pilot's license and then volunteered for the United States Air Force, where he flew daytime missions out of England from Shiptam near Norwich. He later graduated from Ohio State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi and was active in this fraternity throughout his life. He is survived by his very beloved wife, Lila; step-daughter, Lyn Patterson and her husband Jeff; granddaughters, Alex and Caroline, who contributed much joy to his life; his step-daughter, Laura Waage preceded him in death and Bob was a strong comfort to his wife during this time, as he was throughout their years together. Other survivors include sons, Robert Schmidt (Connie) and Michael Schmidt; daughter, Beverly (Randy); and granddaughter, Camie.
SERVICES
The family will receive visitors from 5:00PM until 7:00PM on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Graveside Services and interment will be with full military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 9:00AM, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00AM at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach, San Antonio, TX 78230. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
