Approx 30 letters from WWII were found by Ken Stiteler (American Legion Somers Point) in antique shop and reached out to see if we could help find next of kin. Kin has been located and given to Ken.

Robert Holmes Hughes, was born January 2, 1911, in Spartanburg, SC - Son of Robert H Hughes Sr and Eleanor Bellott Hughes Lee. His father died in 1912.

Robert was a 1932 honor graduate of Clemson College receiving simultaneoulsy civil and mechancial engineering degrees. He was employed by the Clinchfieldd Fuel Co of Spartanburg, SC, transferring in 1940 to the Clinchfield Coal Corp of Dant, VA.

He married Joyce Kellott in approx. 1940 in Spartanburg, SC. They later had a son, Robert W. A. Hughes.

He served in the European Theater during WWII and was discharged as a lieutenant colonel. He returned to Dan where he became president of the mining company. He was later transferred to NY as vice president for mining operations of the Pittston Corp.

During the post was period he was a consultant for the US State Dept and was assigned to assist with mining development in Poland.

In his retirement he operated several businesses until his death on August 29, 1978, in Ventnor, NJ, just a day after his wife, Joyce, died.

At the time of Robert H Hughes death in 1978, he was survived by his son Robert W. Hughes of Ventnor, NJ and nephew William A Rone Jr of Columbia, SC. They are both buried at the Atlantic City Cemetery in Pleasantville, NJ.

By 1989, his son Robert W A Hughes is deceased. (Possible wife was Linda Hughes).

In 1989 papers are filed in regards to the remainder of the estate since Robert W.A. Hughes has passed. (See notice/article)

His nephew William A Rone Jr died in 1998.
