We are happy to report that the dog tag of Vietnam veteran Malcolm Pope is on it's final journey and will be returned to his daughter, Opal in Hope Mills, NC. After posting a request for help in locating Malcolm Pope's family on the Facebook Page of Hope Mills Proud, Opal contacted us. Due to COVID, this return will be handled privately.

Pope's dog tag originates from the South Jersey Dog Tag Collection - it was brought back from Vietnam in 1993 by a Vietnam veteran, and then Chief of Police, Ray Milligan, who had been in Vietnam as logistics coordinator for Operation Smile. 

Vietnam veteran, Malcolm “Mike” Andrew Pope, 64, of Hope Mills, NC passed away Saturday July 28, 2012 surrounded by his family.

Mr. Pope Enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends.  He served his country during the Vietnam war and continued to serve until retiring.

At the time of his death, Mr. Pope was survived by his wife, Emma Jill; daughter, Opal Page and Tommy; son, Brian Pope and wife Leslie; sister, Tammy Brisson all of Hope Mills; brother, Randy Pope and wife Joyce of Houston TX; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca Pope, Scott Page, Drew Pope, and Alexis Nacey.

His services were held on August 2, 2012 at Hope Mills Pentecostal Holiness Church.  Burial followed at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
