We were contacted by Anne Harmon about a dog tag found in a junk box in the trash at Mariette College about 20+ years ago. She was looking for help to find the veteran/family it belonged to to return it.
Unfortunately, the veteran, John E Sandt, is no longer alive.
John E Sandt was born born on January 16, 1903, in Easton, Pennsylvania. His parents were Charles (March 12, 1872 - May 26, 1944 in Easton, PA) and Laurette (August 27, 1877 - May 22, 1955 in Easton, PA ).
He graduated from Easton High school, class of 1921 and Lafayette College, class of 1925. He was an instructor at Marietta College for 15 years when he entered the services of the American Red Cross as a field director in 1940. He had previously served in the Army for 6 months, being released earlier that year to return to Marietta college where he instructed Army air cadets.
He continued his career and life at Marietta College, becoming Dean of in 1956. John E Sandt died on July 7, 1989, in Marietta, Ohio, at the age of 86. He was with Marietta College for 43 years. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. He was never married and did not have any children. Upon his death, he left his home and belongings to Marietta College.
