World War I Dog Tag of Elmer Mitchell
Patriot Connections Dog Tag Project recently helped a gentleman, Joshua Paulette,in finding relatives of dog tag that he found while medal detecting. Joshua also indicated that his boss had come across a dog tag at an antique shop nearby and was seeking some help with that as well.
The dog tag his boss found belongs to WWI veteran Elmer Mitchell.
Elmer Mitchell died at the age of 85 in 1979. A former resident of Bellows Falls, he died at the Vermont Veterans home in Bennington after a long illness.
He was born in Alburg in 1894, son of George and Malvina Mitchell. He worked in the construction section of the BOston and Maine Railroad for many years. At that time, he lived in Bellows Falls and Brattleboro. A WWI veteran, he was a mmeber of Bellows Falls Post American Legion. He served from Sept 1917 until July 1919.
At the time of his death he was survived by his daugther Mrs Geraldine (Ralph) Watkins of Houston, TX, Harold Mitchell of Enfield CT and WIlliam Mitchell of Stafford Springs, CT. He was buried at Park Lawn Cemetery.
Although research is not complete, we believe we have located his son Harold and grandson Jeff. More details to follow.
