Robert F. Gorton, 91, passed away peacefully at his home, in Georgetown, MA, surrounded by family, on September 12, 2023. Described as a funny guy, who made everyone laugh with his sharp wit and sense of humor. Bob, Bobby, Sonny, or most commonly known as Bob Gorton Superstar was born on April 22, 1932, to the late Robert and Isabel Gorton (Snaddon). Bob was predeceased by his sister, Isabel “Dolly” O’Donnell. Bob married the love of his life, the late Patricia Gorton (Maney), in July of 1960 and they lived a wonderful life together, raising four children in Georgetown, MA. Bob Gorton Superstar was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
Bob graduated from Lynn English High School, served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and graduated Suffolk University with a Bachelor of Science. Bob worked many years as an engineer at General Electric in Lynn, MA and Honeywell in Brighton, MA. Bob enjoyed the simple things in life: riding around his “back forty” on his sit-down mower, sitting in his yard watching his tomatoes grow, meeting his friends for breakfast, watching his grandchildren when they were young, and playing Flip Cup with them when they were older. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a proud member of the “Bobs” of Camp Denison, Georgetown. Bob always had a kind word to share, a funny story to tell, and no one walked away from Bob without a smile on their face.
Bob leaves behind his children, Suzanne Gorton of Georgetown, Bobby Gorton and his wife Diane of Plymouth, Lisa O’Neill and her husband Dan of Georgetown, Maryellen Haberland and her husband Greg of Middleton, his beloved grandchildren Danny, Bri, Siobhán, Sophie, Shane, Conor, Cali, Ava, many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass, Friday, September 22, 2023, 10:30 AM, at St. Mary’s Church, 94 Andover Street, Georgetown, MA, followed by interment at Harmony Cemetery, 66 Central Street, Georgetown.
