Dog Tag of Richard A Selby Found
Patriot Connections Dog Tag Project was contacted by Jerry Schneider of Illinois in February 2025 regarding a military dog tag that was found in his friend's belongings after his passing. Mr. Schneider was hoping to locate the veteran or their next of kin in order to return the dog tag.
After conducting thorough research, Sue Quinn-Morris of Patriot Connections Dog Tag Project, discovered that the dog tag belongs to Richard A. Selby, a military veteran who had passed away in 1975 in Round Lake Beach, Illinois.
The Life of Richard A Selby
Richard Albert Selby was born on January 19, 1932, in Chicago, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the US Army in the 101st Airborne Division. He was employed as a repairman in Grayslake, IL. An expert rifleman, he was associated with several gun clubs.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his widow, Martha, nee Robertson, a son Richard A Selby Jr, 3 sisters - Mrs ANthony (Jean) Pizzuto, Frances Fields, Mrs Milton (Dorothy) Samec and brothers Ron and JOhn. His funeral mass was at the St Gilbert's Catholic Church in Grayslake and burial was in Liberty Cemetery in Bristol, WI.
In a heartwarming meeting, Jerry Schneider met Richard Selby Jr at the train station in Round Lake Beach, IL and personally returned his fathers dog tags to him. Richard was elated to receive them, especially since, due to some sad circumstances, he had nothing of his fathers. His father, after serving our great nation, passed away at the early age of 43. Things sure do have a way of coming round so to speak..
