The son of Philip & Isabella (Estella) Uhler, in 1860, he was a saddler living in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, and he later functioned as a dentist. He stood 5' 4" tall and had brown hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg May 8, 1861, and mustered into federal service at Camp Wayne, Washington DC, May 28 as a musician with Co. H, 7th Pennsylvania Reserves (36th Pennsylvania Infantry). Court-martialed by the regiment, charge unknown, in January 1864 but honorably discharged at term's end June 16, 1864.

George A Uhler died on July 7, 1880, at the young age of 38. Cause of death: Consumption. Occupation: Dentist. According to a newspaper article in 1906 (The York Daily) a family reunion was held at the home of Mrs Jesse Berkstressor - the five children and eleven grandchildren of Mrs Anna Uhler assembled.
