The son of Philip & Isabella (Estella) Uhler, in 1860, he was a saddler living in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, and he later functioned as a dentist. He stood 5' 4" tall and had brown hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg May 8, 1861, and mustered into federal service at Camp Wayne, Washington DC, May 28 as a musician with Co. H, 7th Pennsylvania Reserves (36th Pennsylvania Infantry). Court-martialed by the regiment, charge unknown, in January 1864 but honorably discharged at term's end June 16, 1864.

Death Notice

George A Uhler died on July 7, 1880, at the young age of 38. Cause of death: Consumption. Occupation: Dentist. According to a newspaper article in 1906 (The York Daily) a family reunion was held at the home of Mrs Jesse Berkstressor - the five children and eleven grandchildren of Mrs Anna Uhler assembled. It was the first time in 20 years that Mrs. Anna Uhler had all of her children with her. (S. Elliot Uhler, Philadelphia, Charles A Uhler, Renovo, William G Uhler, Mrs Jesse Berkstressor and P.
