The 12th New Jersey was created in the Summer of 1862. They were commissioned to answer the call for more Federal volunteers to bring the Civil War to an end. 1,000 men from throughout southern New Jersey answered the call and gathered at Camp Stockton in Woodbury, NJ. The regiment consisting of 10 companies of 100 men served ably. They incurred many casualties in battles from 1863 to 1865. Many also suffered from ill health through the regiment’s tenure with the Army of the Potomac. The 12th New Jersey reenactors will recreate an authentic camp and present a number of activities at Batsto Village.
