Please join our guest, Dr. Andy Waskie, for his presentation examining the life and contributions of Octavous Valentine Catto, a Philadelphia civil rights activist, educator, and Brigade Inspector General in the Pennsylvania National Guard’s 5th Brigade in the late 1800s. His legacy was honored with a statue at Philadelphia City Hall on September 26, 2017.
Dr. Andy Waskie, Ph.D. taught for thirty years in public education, and has spent twenty years as a full time Professor at Temple University in the Languages Department. He has written a number of articles and research papers, as well as four books on Civil War Era History as well as serving as co-founder and officer of the OV Catto Society.
Admission is free. All are invited
Refreshments will be served. Glenside Hall is handicap accessible. The public is also invited to attend the regular monthly meeting of the Cheltenham Township Historical Commission which begins at 6:30pm.
