THE EVOLUTION OF FRENCH-AMERICAN RELATIONSHIP

After spending half of his life in France and the other half in The United States, Jean-Loup looks back at the relationship between the two countries, ranging from the involvement of recent discords on political, economic and military issues. In retrospect, this relationship can be perceived as a typical “Love Affair” driven by a mutual admiration, bordering at times on envy and jealousy while drifting at other times into criticism, anger, suspicion and misunderstanding.

An overview of this relationship will show that it has been established on a remarkable history of alliance, assistance and mutual cooperation. It is striking to observe the importance of the role played to this day by the military leadership of both countries in forging the alliance. The names of Lafayette, Rochambeau, de Grasse, de Gaulle, Juin, Leclerc de Hautecloque, de Lattre de Tassigny, Monclar from France and George Washington, Pershing, Marshall, Patton, Bradley, Collins, Eisenhower, Ridgeway from the United States. To this day, French and American forces have been fighting side by side in Afghanistan, Syria, Libya and Central Africa. Our French/American relationship has allowed officers of both countries to work, bond and coordinate militarily in the command structures of NATO.

The guest Speaker will be Jean-Loup Archawski who was born in France. He has lived half of his life in the United States and received his primary education in The United States. His master’s degree as an Economist in France was from “École Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Économique” in Paris. After completing his military obligations in the French Navy from which he retired with the rank of Commander, he led a diversified career in strategic planning in the shipping industry. He returned to the United States with his family in 1978 to establish, create a market and head the U.S subsidiary of a French maker of Baker’s Yeast which eventually became the largest maker of Baker’s Yeast in the world.
