“In March of 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Chamber Foundation launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with our network of 1600 state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, our goal was to create a movement across America in hundreds of local communities where veterans and military families return every day. In our first 12 months, Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 190 hiring fairs in 48 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia; more than 9,500 have gotten jobs. We will significantly expand our efforts in 2012 with hiring fairs in 400 communities, the establishment of a stand-alone program for military spouses, and a sustained campaign to enlist the commitments from the small business community to hire veterans and military spouses over the next years.\”
Veteran job seekers and employers may go to HoH.GreatJob.net to register. Employers must have current job openings, and must register. If you need assistance registering, please contact us at hiringourheroes@uschamber.com. Representatives from the NJ State Library will be also on hand to explain and demonstrate all the resources veterans have available to search for jobs, design and write resumes, and apply for jobs. With technology assistance from Verizon, computer stations will be set up for attendees to practice using those resources.
