On Sunday 11/30/2014, Dr George Beichl, a WW2 ex POW who is in hospice at 39th and Woodland is being taken by ambulance with police escort to the GERMAN SOCIETY in Phila. for a Concert. HE WILL BE THE GUEST OF HONOR. The City Council of Phila is inviting veterans groups to be there.
It was not until his early nineties did anyone know of his story. His daughter got in touch with City Veterans Director Scott Brown . He was a POW for one year and he and his men spelled out POW with their bodies as Allied Forces flew overhead , the aircraft tipped their wings in acknowledgement, and they were soon rescued. He was involved with the Manhattan Project (Atomic Bomb), he was a Professor at St Joesph College. His health is failing fast now , but he is still lucid , and this concert is in his honor.
