The Armed Services Council, in cooperation with American Legion, Benjamin Franklin Post #405 of the Philadelphia Union League, is sponsoring the OUR COMMUNITY SALUTES (OCS) dinner at the Union League on Thursday evening May 11, 2017. The event honors those young men and women who are graduating from High School and enlisting directly into the US armed services. Over sixty new enlistees and their parents will be honored. Military recruiters from every branch of service will be present, as well as a brass ensemble from the US Army Field Band, “PERSHINGS OWN.” The guest speaker will be Major General Walter Lord, US Army who is a South Philadelphia native and graduate of Valley Force Junior College and LaSalle University. He has been on active service with the Army since 1986. Certificates of appreciation from Senator Toomey and Philadelphia Councilman Oh will be presented to the new recruits.
Post # 405 and the Armed Services Council will be sponsoring the event for two hundred guests and are asking for donations to defray the costs. Individual dinners cost $55 – a table $500 which will include two free dinners for the donor. Post #405 is a 501c3 and donations are tax deductible.
