The ceremony to name the VA Medical Center at 3900 Woodland Ave. after Cpl. Michael J. Crescenz will be held on May 2 at 10 a.m., according to the office of PA Sen. Pat Toomey, who was the prime sponsor of the bill signed in December. The House measure was sponsored by Philadelphia Congressman Chaka Fattah. The ceremony caps a two-year effort by veterans, including the PVVMF board, to have the center named after the only Philadelphia MOH recipient of the Vietnam War. The 1966 Cardinal Dougherty High School graduate received the medal posthumously in 1970 for his assault against enemy machine gun bunkers on Nov. 20, 1968. In addition, a group of local veterans are raising funds to erect a statue of Cpl. Crescenz. For more information, please follow the link below.
