This campus tradition commemorates all servicemen and women who have lost their lives in military service through the sharing of history, stories, music, patriotism, and military protocol. This year’s event, themed “Together We Remember,” was developed in collaboration with the Powelton Village Civic Association and the University of Pennsylvania’s Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Programs to pay tribute to Philadelphia native Corporal James Joseph Cochran, who lost his life in World War I at the age of 23.
Join us as we learn more about the patriotic tradition of neighbors gathering at Cochran Triangle (37th Street and Powelton Avenue) each Memorial Day. As we remember the 100th Anniversary of Cochran’s passing and the end of the Great War, this Primer gives us the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming holiday weekend when we pay respect to the countless courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. There will also be light refreshments served and an opportunity to visit the memorial with a guide following the reception.
For more information about the Cochran Triangle Memorial Day event being held on Monday, May 28 at 11 a.m., please contact rebecca@drexel.edu.
