On August 10 of this year, the West Jersey Tea Party will host a flag presentation ceremony. This is not just an ordinary flag. This particular flag was flown over the US Marine Base at Kandahar, Afghanistan, on September 11, 2010. It is being presented to the West Jersey Tea Party by the Navy Mobile Construction Battalion Two One. This flag does us the honor of recognizing that our group, along with many others, provided emotional and bodily sustenance for a great number of men and women who proudly served in our armed forces in Afghanistan. We collected food, toiletries and other items and shipped them to the troops.
An Iraq war veteran, Marine Sergeant Timothy Missel, will lead the ceremony. The Flag will be folded by the Burlington County Eagle Scout Honor Guard, handed to Sergeant Missel who in turn will present it to the Mrs. Judi Tapper. Mrs. Tapper is a Gold Star Mother, whose son, Petty Officer First Class Navy Seal David M. Tapper was KIA in Afghanistan. Lorrain Michio, who was the prime mover behind the collection of the goods and Christine German and her husband, Richard who packaged the goods and delivered them to the Post Office.
The West Jersey Tea Party has extended an invitation to the Burlington County Marine Corps League. We hope to have a videotaped message from Marine Sergeant Mark Dofini. Sergeant Dolfini’s story can be found at this link.
